Nichole Richie Gets 4 Days for DUI
Charge
Nicole Richie pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs
and was sentenced to 90 hours in jail and fined by a court commissioner who
said she was lucky nobody was killed when she was driving the wrong way on
a highway.
Richie, the 25-year-old daughter of pop singer Lionel Richie, was
somber and subdued as she was lectured about her driving. She was with her
boyfriend Joel Madden when she entered court.
Richie, who's thought to be pregnant but will not confirm it, wore
a knee-length black dress and spiked heels. She stood in front of the judge
and answered "guilty" when asked how she pleaded to the DUI charge. She had
initially pleaded not guilty.
She confirmed that she understood terms of the plea agreement worked
out between her lawyers and prosecutors. Superior Court Commissioner Steven
K. Lubell also gave Richie three years of probation and warned that she would
go to jail for a year if she violated it.
The Simple Life star said she had also used marijuana and had been
taking Vicodin.
